A passion for wildlife and nature saw the founders of Botlierskop combine game farming and tourism on their farmland, a short drive from the thriving seaside town of Mossel Bay, at the start of the Garden Route region. As per usual, wildlife is wild and animal sightings can’t be guaranteed – but that makes game drives even more exciting as you’ll never know what you’ll find around the next bend.
The vast private reserve’s diverse habitats (consisting over 4200 ha) – coastal fynbos, woodlands, veldlands and mountain fynbos, are home to 200 species of birdlife and more than 1800 animals including 13 antelope and 13 mammal species – including 4 of the Big 5 animals.
A sunrise, midday or sunset excursion aboard a 4×4 jeep or safari truck, with a capable khaki-clad game ranger at the helm maximizes your chances of wild encounters with giraffes, honey badgers, Cape mountain zebra, vervet monkeys, hippos, waterbuck and the rare and endangered white rhinoceros. Africa’s apex predators, the lions are also on the game drive. Resplendent with a flowing mane, their male lion shares his space with lionesses and de-horned white rhinos rub shoulders with antelope on the reserve’s grounds.
Bring your camera, warm clothes and a sense of adventure. The team at Botlierskop will take care of all the little details (and the big game animals).
